1980’s

'Working on two scales, the immense and the intimate … Glowing luminously from sooty charcoal backgrounds, the works evoke an uncanny timelessness, at once ancient and sacrosanct, immediate and prophetic'.' Pamela Ashcroft

The Melbourne 'The Sun' 1985

'The dominant aspects of my work in the eighties are readily identified. The work was huge, dark, anatomically analytical and with a brooding sense of pathos. Nevertheless I often reminded myself even then that the insects outlived the dinosaurs. So for me intimacy, refinement and a certain subtelty could not and should not be sacrificed to overblown monumentality.'
