1960’s

'From an early age Godwin drew … copies of old master works and in his teens his paintings tended towards an impressionist or a post impressionist manner. ..when he attended the exhibition 'Two Decades of American Art' (1967) at the National Gallery of Victoria, it became clear that art required scale, presence and a degree of performative courage'
